Portion distortion

Have you ever eaten "the whole thing" at a restaurant and then felt uncomfortably stuffed? One of the reasons we eat too much is because we have "portion distortion." We fall into the trap of assuming restaurant portions are normal-sized, but they're not – they're often gigantic.

Portion sizes are an important key to losing or maintaining body weight. If we serve and eat restaurant-sized portions at home, it opens the door to weight gain.

At home, try taking a small serving of the entree at first. If you're still hungry, take a tiny second serving. Better yet, have a piece of fruit or fresh veggies instead of seconds. Enjoy the success of getting up from the table feeling satisfied – but not stuffed!
